So chairs are always considered a fillers rather than core furniture elements in a living room. But this same principle can be very effectively used, lets see how. If you observe the furniture arrangement in any living room you will notice that sofa sets are arranged in living rooms that overlook some object of interest such as a fireplace, TV, outdoor patio, backyard etc.
Speaking of timeless styles, wingback chairs, slipper chairs or leather chairs, with or without arms, can make beautiful accent pieces to your living room and supply additional seating at the same time. Place one on either side of your couch or loveseat, or offset one extra chair with a plant or lamp on the other side. If you are short on space, armless chairs are available in every color, design and shape. Sometimes called accent chairs, these can provide decorator touches, extra seating, and save space all at once.
The Middle Ages (1066-1485) used these enormous armchairs to the lord of the manors benefit when guests were invited over. With a comfortable backing and a place for his arms to rest its no secret why he preferred these over ones side chairs that had no arms. His fair lady would sit next to him in a side chair with all other guests facing away from the two on benches or stools.
Create an interesting effect even with a simple arrangement by doing the same to recliners with built-in footrests. Some chairs today come in eye-catching upholstery patterns that are sure to contrast well with a solid colored sofa set. Todays recliner chairs have come a long way from the lavish seats fathers would set aside as their special chair. With a variety of different styles to choose from, running the gamut from simple and clean, to modern and minimalist, homeowners do not need to sacrifice looks to create a highly comfortable living space.
