Living room chairs should be lightweight and easy to move since they may need to be shifted to accommodate various activities and even differences in lighting at various times during the day. It may not be a great idea to use heavy varieties of wood like oak or rosewood. The color scheme should blend well with the colors of the couch, wall paint and other elements of soft furnishings like curtains and wall treatments. Chairs made of painted wood fit the bill, in terms of the ease with which these chairs can be blended into the decor, coupled with adequate strength.
Although natural brown leather has a very authentic look, you might find that you prefer one of the brighter dyed shades. Its also important to remember that leather is one material that gets better with time. It will get just a bit softer and more comfortable each time you sit in it, adding to the chairs comfort and good looks. Leather is also a material that can be cleaned when necessary, which will help to contribute to the longevity of the chair.
Recliners these days can have all kinds of options installed. Heat, massage, rockers, swivel. Even mini-fridges if you want to get real fancy! Just remember that the more options you have, the more there is to go wrong. Sometimes sticking with a timeless style will suit you better than having the newest thing the chair engineers can come up with.
It is important to make sure the chair is made from actual leather, not a simulated material. If you see the term "leather-faced" mentioned, this means that while the surface you sit on is made from leather, other portions of the chair may be covered with other materials. While there are certainly quality-made leather-faced chairs on the market, these chairs should be priced lower than a chair that is completely surfaced in leather. Before you buy, make sure you know what you are paying for.
