For centuries the armchair represented status in society and now is commonly seen, accompanied by an ottoman, in living rooms around the world. Individuals of great power and authority sat in these chairs giving them complete control over their people. During the period of 6000BC, which dates back to ancient Egypt, ancient chairs were created out of lavish materials. Gold, silver, bronze and an array of jewels were etched or carved into these seats. Many of these chairs were decorated with such distinct qualities only the Pharaoh was deemed worthy enough to sit in one.
lets see a small experiment. If you have been given a choice in a living room to watch a good movie and provided with two different types of seating arrangement. First a big stuffed leather sofa and a small chair with fair amount of seating space a person should have, which one would you choose to sit. Of course most people will unconsciously choose to sit on a large sofa and ignore the chair altogether.
In todays modern dining rooms these chairs are placed at the end of the table for either the eldest of the family or whomever the celebration may involve. Culture today has a variety of use for these types of chairs. Whether it is a formal matter or a student studying away in the comfort of a tub chair, the selection in stores across the globe is downright frightening.
So such kind of arrangement is used to create a focus in the living room. Go right now to images.google.com and search for "living room" images. View at least 10 images and you will see that all attention has been focused around this furniture arrangement.
